THE RELATIONSHIP
A PARTNERSHIP THAT GREW INTO SOMETHING GREATER

The relationship with Star Logistics, a Covenant Logistics Group Company, and one of the nation's largest home improvement retailers began in 2010. Within a few years, Star had grown into one of the retailer's largest vendor inbound providers.

Today, Star is the retailer's largest one-way provider out of their single biggest distribution campus in the country, and is active at multiple stocking distribution centers across the Southeast and Southwest.

THE CHALLENGE
SPEED, SCALE, AND THE CHAOS OF DISASTER SEASON

This retailer faces a logistical challenge unlike almost any other in its category: when a hurricane or major weather event hits, demand for critical supplies like generators, gas cans, tarp, etc. spikes overnight. Stores need to be stocked before the storm, during the storm, and immediately after. Failure to execute means empty shelves when communities need them most.

The traditional model couldn't keep up. Flooding distribution centers with live service providers created a capacity crunch. The retailer needed a provider who could scale fast, move pre-loaded freight on command, and operate as a true extension of their logistics team.

THE SOLUTION
TRAILERS PRE-POSITIONED. TEAMS READY. FREIGHT MOVING BEFORE THE STORM HITS.

Star didn't wait to be asked, they came to the retailer with a solution. Beginning around 2022, Star introduced a drop-trailer program designed around the retailer's emergency logistics model.

Starting each mid-May, Star pre-positions 125 trailers loaded with the retailer's highest-demand SKUs across key markets, ready to roll the moment a storm is declared.

DROP TRAILER PROGRAM

125 pre-loaded trailers staged across seven strategic markets, always south-heavy where storms hit hardest.

TEAMS-ONLY CAPACITY

All emergency loads are sourced as team trucks — no HOS clock, no forced stops. When traffic stacks up post-storm, Star keeps moving when others can't.

ON-SITE COMMAND SUPPORT

During major weather events, Star's team embeds directly in the retailer's command center, monitoring road closures, optimizing routes, and rerouting freight from affected stores in real time.

CONTINUOUS REPLENISHMENT

Beyond the first 125 loads, Star continuously drops and replenishes trailers at every stocking distribution center — keeping freight flowing without ever flooding facilities with waiting drivers.

THE RESULTS
PROVEN WHEN IT MATTERS MOST

The proof isn't in the planning, it's in the execution when every hour counts. Star has repeatedly delivered at a scale that competitors simply can't match.

• 2026 Snowstorm: 125 trailers deployed across 6 locations in 48 hours, generating approximately 870 loads to ensure store readiness ahead of a nationwide cold weather event.

• Hurricanes Helene & Milton: Over 1,200 loads moved in a two-month span, keeping the retailer's stores stocked across the Southeast during back-to-back major storms.

• Unmatched Trailer Scale: No other provider in the retailer's network has been able to match Star's ability to drop and cycle trailers at this volume and speed.

• Largest One-Way Service Provider: Star is the retailer's #1 one-way provider out of their largest distribution campus in the US, handling their most time-critical SDC-to-store freight.

WHY STAR
SERVICE. SPEED. SCALABILITY.

When asked what sets Star apart, the answer is immediate: service, speed, and scalability. Star isn't just a provider, they're a partner who shows up before the emergency, works through it shoulder-to-shoulder, and keeps the supply chain intact when the rest of the network breaks down.

That's a promise backed by 15 years of performance — and a relationship that keeps growing.
