TRANSTEX Honors Covenant with Appreciation Award, Highlights Positive Impact to the Environment

TRANSTEX honors Covenant with an appreciation award recognizing the partnership’s positive impact on the environment.

TRANSTEX honors Covenant with an appreciation award recognizing the partnership’s positive impact on the environment.

Covenant is honored to have received an appreciation award from TRANSTEX, the leading developer of trailer aerodynamic technology, which significantly reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions of truck fleets. Since first adopting TRANSTEX’s trailer skirts in the early 2000s, Covenant has reduced carbon emissions across it’s total fleet of 5,000 trailers by 114,194 metric tons. Additionally, the company has saved nearly $36M in fuel costs – a reduction that benefits customers and the environment alike.

Made from glass-reinforced thermoplastic composite, TRANSTEX’s aerodynamic trailer skirts lead the industry in terms of performance, reliability, and value and are proven to deliver up to 7.3 percent fuel savings. TRANSTEX products are EPA SmartWay® Verified Advanced Category, CARB Compliant, and CARB GHG Phase 2 BIN 3 Pre-approved.

“It has been a pleasure working with Covenant for close to 20 years, and we are proud to deliver products that help them meet their sustainability targets,” said TRANSTEX’s Doug DeJong, director of sales – Southeast. “The award we shared with them is an important initiative that recognizes their efforts to make a positive impact on our industry. Our mission is to bring efficient solutions to transportation. With trailer aerodynamic technology like the EDGE SKIRTS, we aim to help fleets optimize their operations and improve their environmental impact. We look forward to our continued relationship with Covenant and are excited to further support them with their efficiency goals.”

“Our partnership with TRANSTEX is valuable for so many reasons, starting with the positive impact we’ve been able to make on the environment while still delivering for our customers,” said Covenant’s Dan Porterfield, Senior Vice President of Maintenance, Equipment Control. “Covenant’s long-standing commitment to sustainability isn’t one we take lightly. We are proud to be on the leading edge of doing what’s right for the health of people and our world. On behalf of the entire Covenant team, I thank TRANSTEX for helping us to achieve our environmental goals and for this award.”

Covenant is committed to corporate sustainability initiatives that create long-term value. In addition to adopting TRANSTEX’s aerodynamic trailer skirts, Covenant has proudly acted in ways that support environmental stewardship. In 2021, Covenant:

  • Piloted aerodynamic technology, TruckWings, to close the gap between a truck’s cab and trailer to further reduce drag, improve stability, and increase fuel efficiency.
  • Installed Electric Auxiliary Power Units (EAPUs) to reduce fuel consumption, increase driver comfort, and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions during idle periods.
  • Participated in a tire recycling program that kept 600,000 lbs. of tire waste out of landfills.

As a result of these actions – and others – the Environmental Protection Agency recently honored Covenant for the second consecutive year as a SmartWay High Performer for competitive carbon metrics. Prior to that, EcoVadis awarded Covenant with the prestigious 2022 Bronze Sustainability Rating, a designation that places the company in the top 50 percent for sustainability practices.
